The Bad Plus Saint Louis Concert reviews
Soulfully Stimulating
It hit me as we were waiting, and waiting, and waiting in line to park in the Arie Crown Theatre's garage, blaring The Bad Plus's "Point of It All" as loud as our little rental car's radio would go. The Bad Plus (the new father of soul) was somewhere in the vicinity, and we were only moments away from seeing my favorite artist perform live. Something totally overdue!
Chrisette Michelle's angelic voice showering all that could hear w/ sprinkles of peace and harmony was a fantastic way to open the show. The show started with her.
Music Soulchild came out with enough enthusiasm to excite even those who seemed not so excited to be there, a perfect combination of soulfulness and crowd participation that left everyone wanting more. The transition from Music Soulchild to the main man The Bad Plus worked out perfectly.
The Bad Plus, looking as ordinary as a sophomore in college, came out. His down-to-earth persona was reflected in his holy jeans, casual shirt, and hat. Something unexpected was the crutches he hobbled along w/ still rocking to the beat. A true showman, never wanting to let the crowd down. His vocals are unparalleled, and just by hearing his voice, I began to breathe a little easier.
In a nutshell, the concert gave me a new perspective. Overall, this was the best concert I've been to in years. Anyone lucky enough to experience Chrisette Michelle, Music Soulchild, and The Bad Plus all in the same night should feel truly blessed. I came out feeling rejuvenated, happy, and like a brand new woman ready to take on the world.
Unfortunately, I wish I could have written only positive feedback about our concert experience, but it wasn't "All Good". Between Music Soulchild and The Bad Plus, during intermission, we thought we'd grab a couple cocktails and chill outside the theatre doors along w/ everyone else, but that didn't happen.
First off, we waited in line for 30 minutes before we even made it to the front to order our drinks. To make matters worse, the bar didn't have any kind of Brandy (or Brown Liquor) to drink, which I thought was kind of weird. So, I settled for a glass of wine that I had to inhale so I wouldn't miss The Bad Plus's opening.
It would seem to me that if someone would travel from KC to Chicago, pay for airfare, Hotel, and a rental car just to go to the concert, the least they could do is have some Crown Royal there for me to drink and be merry. But oh well, I guess you can't have it all.
